The acronym RSS stands for either Really Simple Syndication, Rich Site Summary, or one of a few other definitions, depending on whom you ask. The meaning of the acronym, however, isn't as important as what RSS does. RSS is an XML-based format for distributing information or content syndication. You can subscribe to any number of RSS feeds and have new or updated content delivered right to you, instead of having to search for the information. RSS feeds are read by news readers.
A news reader, which is also known as a news aggregator, is software that reads news feeds that have been subscribed to. A number of free and commercial news readers are available for download. Just use your favorite Web search engine to search for "RSS readers" or "RSS news readers."
You can find out more about news aggregators by visiting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aggregator.
